In the first part of the series we generated a snapshot from a computer game. However, the files are in a format that we cannot use.
Therefore we have to convert the files into a usable format (*.stl or *.obj). This is possible with the software Noesis by Rich Whitehouse. After the download you have to unpack the files (e.g. with 7-Zip) and execute the *.exe file.
On the left side of the program you see a folder structure. Here you have to navigate to the folder where the in-game image was saved. It is the path you entered in NinjaRipper in the field" Ouput Dir". A list of *.rip files should be displayed. If this is not the case, extraction with the NinjaRipper may not have worked. If you have problems there, write me in the comments.
If everything worked, we can now run a "batch process", which is a repeated process. Then you don't have to convert each file separately.
Für den Batch-Prozess müssen wir einige Parameter festlegen.
- Input extension: The file extension of the given files, for us *.rip
- Output extension: The file extension of the files to be created, for us *.stl
- Additional parameters: Unimportant, so remains empty
- Output path: Hier habe ich den Pfad geändert von „$inpath$\$inname$\$inname$out.$outtext$“ zu „$inpath$\$inname$out.$outtext$“, damit nicht jede einzelne Datei in einem Unterordner erstellt wird
Then press "Folder batch" and select the folder containing the *.rip files. After that all files should be listed which have been recognized by the program and which match the parameters, i.e. all *.rip files. Now press "Export" and the program converts the files.
If everything has worked, the message: "Batch Process complete" appears after a few minutes and you can exit the program.
Now we have as many *.stl files in the folder as *.rip files.
These files are usually not suitable for printing directly, as they are not closed or are only 1-dimensional, for example.
For this reason, the files must be processed in another program, which will be discussed in the next article in this series.
